About Smith’s Legacy

Smith’s family founded Smith’s Legacy to pay forward the kindness they received during the course of his illness. This perfectly encapsulates Smith’s gentle, inexhaustible kindness and caring spirit to everyone that he met.

Smith Baker was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend who touched the lives of many people, forging an affinity for deep connection with everyone he came in contact with, both young and old. He had a knack for sitting next to anyone, finding common ground and having meaningful conversation and connection. He was loved for his sense of humour, kind-heartedness and gracious easy-going nature.

Smith was a high school student in the Laurier Program at Brantford Collegiate Institute. He was talented in the performing arts, and photography was one of his favourite hobbies. He was a poet at heart, reciting Shakespeare with such ease and beauty and composing and delivering his own writing with a raw sincerity that drew everyone in. He had a community of close peers and teachers whose lives were touched by the shared laughs, his fun-loving spirit and supportive, encouraging attitude.

Smith had a deep appreciation for nature and caring for animals – he loved going on adventures, times spent at the ocean and walking in the forest. He took time to appreciate drops of water on leaves and bees on flowers, as exhibited by his many photos.

Smith loved being around his family and attending celebrations, whether birthdays or holidays. He also loved spending time with his friends – he revelled in video games and creating fantasy role-playing adventures for his friends, and of course eating pizza and ice cream. He lit up every room he walked into without even realizing it, and walked every day with a smile.

Remembering his life, so beautifully lived and rooted in love. How lucky we were to have stood in his light.
